The Clock Tower is the most iconic landmark of the Sighișoara Citadel and the main entrance gate into the old medieval town. Standing at 64 meters high, the tower dominates the town skyline and currently houses the Sighișoara History Museum.
Construction began in the 14th century to defend the main gate of the fortress. Over the centuries, the tower was expanded and heightened, eventually receiving its baroque style roof and the intricate clock mechanism featuring carved wooden figurines that depict the days of the week and allegorical figures.
Climbing the interior wooden staircases allows visitors to explore museum exhibits set across multiple levels. At the top level, the wooden balcony offers a striking view over the red tiled roofs of the citadel and the Târnava Mare valley.
