Brukenthal Palace is one of Sibiu's most important cultural landmarks and home to one of Romania's most valuable art collections. Located in Grand Square (Piața Mare) in the heart of the historic center, the palace was built in the late 18th century by Samuel von Brukenthal, Governor of Transylvania and an important art collector. Designed in the late Viennese Baroque style, the palace now houses the European Art Gallery, featuring works by artists such as Peter Paul Rubens, Jan van Eyck, and Lorenzo Lotto, alongside important Romanian and Transylvanian artworks.
