About this place

Dragomirna Monastery stands out due to its unique architecture in the Bukovina region. Built in the early 17th century at the initiative of Metropolitan Anastasie Crimca, the main church is remarkably tall and narrow. Its exterior facades are decorated with a distinctive carved stone belt depicting a twisted rope motif.

The complex is enclosed by high stone walls and massive defense towers added by Prince Miron Barnovschi, giving it the imposing appearance of a medieval fortress. Inside the peaceful courtyard, visitors can appreciate a blend of Gothic, Moldavian, and Wallachian architectural elements.

The monastery museum houses a valuable collection of illuminated manuscripts crafted in the famous local scriptorium, alongside antique gold-thread embroideries, icons, and liturgical artifacts from the 17th and 18th centuries.
